[Y]ou have to do a whole lot of work to prepare yourself for any case in the courtroom. You have to find a reliable legal representative, gather your evidence, prepare your arguments, know your facts, and build up the confidence to stand and declare yourself in a room full of strangers. But once you’ve put all of this work in, there’s one last thing that you need to do before heading to the trial – you have to make yourself physically presentable. There are a few steps that you will have to take to achieve this, and you will have to carry most of them out in advance of the day. So, read on to find out what you need to do in order to physically prep yourself for the big date!

For the Courtroom – Put Together an Appropriate Outfit

First, you should focus on your outfit. Chances are that you’re going to have to order this well in advance and you might even need time to get alterations carried out. Generally speaking, you’re best off investing in a suit. (Buy or Clean a Coat, Tie & Suit Prior to Court) This should be composed of some smart trousers, a shirt, and a jacket that matches the trousers. You should also incorporate a smart tie, such as a rocktie. Choose some subtle socks, as bright socks will stand out. Then invest in some smart black shoes. Make sure to polish them up on the big day! If you want to go the extra mile, you can add other accessories, such as pocket squares or cufflinks.

Get a Haircut

You should have a haircut a couple of days before your case. Don’t risk having your haircut on the same day, as your appointment may run over and you don’t want to have to choose between going into court looking scruffy or being late for your case. Choose a smart and neat style. On the day of your case, make sure to get up a little early to style your hair properly.

For the Courtroom – Shave or Style Your Facial Hair

If you have stubble, you are best to shave your facial hair. Stubble may be great for everyday wear, but a clean shave is the smart and presentable scenario. If you have longer facial hair, make sure that it is well groomed and styled. Use beard balms and oils for a nice finishing touch. If possible consider shaving off all facial hair.

Manicure Your Nails

The majority of men don’t pay attention to their nails. But for the court, you want to look as presentable as possible. Trim them or file them down, clean out any dirt that may be tucked underneath them, and buff them to a bright shine.

By following these simple steps, you will look clean and neat for your court case. Of course, nobody should judge you on your appearance. But if you are presentable, people are more likely to take you seriously and lean in your favor. So, make the effort!
