When you’ve finally been through all of the legal battles and stressful court proceedings, it can feel like the nightmare has finally ended as you embark on a new life together with your child. Unfortunately, it’s likely not the last you’ll hear of your Ex-partner and it’s certainly not the last challenge you’ll face as a father.

So in this article, we’ve compiled a shortlist of five important lessons that have been passed on from successful single Dads that were once in the same position as you.

Successful Single Dads Tip #1: “Sooner or later, you’ll need to face your Ex-partner.”

Perhaps the legal battles have taken a toll on you and your ex-partner and you’ve decided on a truce. This can be a good thing to help you both recuperate from the stress involved in dealing with the legal stress of a custody battle, but sooner or later, they’re going to be back and you’ll need to be able to speak openly to them. While you might not end up as friends with your ex-partner, it’s still a good idea to try and set aside your differences for the sake of your child. Just don’t assume that it’s the last you’ll ever see of them.

Tip #2: “Your Ex-partner will always get undue credit.”

Whether it comments about how lovely your child’s mother is or comments about how your children must’ve got their good looks from the mother, you’re going to hear a lot of praise for your ex-partner. Most of these are just harmless comments from people that don’t know your situation, but it can still sting to hear it and you need to learn to cope with it.

Successful Single Dads Tip #3: “Stay in touch with your attorney–you never know when you might need them again”.

It’s important to stay in touch with your attorney so that they can help you deal with any outstanding issues or follow-up on problems related to the divorce proceedings. If you’ve yet to find an attorney to represent you for your legal battle, then it’s important to do some research and find a service like JWB Family Law that is known to stay with clients even after a settlement has been reached. This will ensure that you always have legal assistance by your side and will give you peace of mind in your new life with your child.

Tip #4: “Don’t say goodbye to your social life.”

A lot of single Dads try to commit themselves to their children, effectively saying goodbye to their social life. This is a bad approach as even the most confident and hard-working Dads need to see their friends now and then. Don’t say goodbye to your social life–just cut down a little bit.

Successful Single Dads Tip #5: “You’re going to be exhausted, but that’s okay.”

Between all of your career responsibilities and taking care of your children, you’re going to get exhausted every single day. Just remember that you’re not Superman and you can afford to take a break now and then.

I would just like to tell you at what you do and the topics you discuss are very helpful and useful tools in learning the best way to approach situations.
I had been in a custody dispute with the mother that took off with my daughter over 2300 miles away. The first step was to get her back in the state of Indiana and I can say that now after a little over a year-and-a-half I have now been able to get custody of my daughter and get her out after an abusive household in which the step the father has a drug problem which caused them to flee to Arizona. It took time commitment of an understanding but now I have my daughter and I know that she is safe and she understands that I will do anything to keep her that way. Your post and advise has helped me greatly in my battle. Again thank you. And I would like to say to All fathers that are going through struggles to keep diligent even when it feels the things are stacked against you and it will not work out in your favor. Love your children hugs them everyday and make sure that they know that you are in their Corner no matter what.
